spring—
hey crocus hunters
I saw the first frog!
So there’s a story to this tongue-in-cheek haiku (senryu). Last night, heavy winds blew over a potted Cyprus tree on our verandah. When we inspected the damage this morning, we found this little pottery frog perched (alone) in the dirt. The second part of the story is that every spring, prairie folk where I live go hunting for the first crocus, a harbinger of spring. When they find it, they tell their friends (nowadays they post photos on Facebook), and everyone who cares goes trekking out along the riverbank (usually) to hunt them down.
